Day 38: Vienna – Rest Turned to Stress

Taking the train from Salzburg to Vienna, the capital of Austria, is about 3hrs.

Vienna has two main stations: Wien Westbahnhof and Wien HBF, trains coming in from Salzburg and going to and from Budapest will stop at Westbahnhof while trains going to Prague will depart from HBF, check which station you need most before choosing your accommodation, although the Vienna metro system is pretty convenient way to get between the two stations. Anyway, this is Westbahnhof station.

And in case you forget which station you are at, here’s a giant “W” to remind you.

Checked into an ibis right closeby the station.

The view is pretty nice as well. ☺

I had planned today to be an unevevtful day of rest and hopefully catch up on my blog. As I opened the safety box to load in my passports and money, I realised to my utter horror, I had left it all in the safety box in the hotel of Salzburg. Yes, I, who repeatedly remind guests everyday to clear out their safety boxes have committed the crime myself. I panicked for a bit, weighing my options of taking the train to and back again, but that would cost over €100 for an on day return ticket. Then I ate some chocolate from Belgium and calmed down for a bit. Logically, the first thing was to call the hotel in Salzburg to see if they found my stuff. Luckily I had stayed at a decent 4-star hotel instead of a dodgy place. To my relieve, they had found it and I asked them about my options. They said they would mail the stuff to me and it would reach Vienna the next day, luckily I was staying in Vienna for a couple of days! I was thrilled and was like YUSSSS CHARGE TO MY CREDIT CARD. Now, all I have to do is put faith on the Austrian post to not lose or steal my sh*t. 🙏🙏🙏

After spending the whole morning/afternoon exchanging calls with the hotel, I was hungry and went out for food.

I got this Käsekrainer from a hot dog stand. OMG it was so delicious, even the hot dog bun was toasted, such high standards!

image
The Käsekrainer is a sausage stuffed with cheese, my favourite food, you can sort of see it oozing out of the sausage.

Went past a supermarket and realised I hadn’t had fruit in a while (unless you count strawberry waffles 😂), so now I must binge eat watermelon.

Lazed around for the rest of the day then went out for dinner, schnitzel time!

To be honest I prefer thick cut oily tonkatsu or HK style pork schnitzel to German dry thin cut style.

    1. Actually they passed the phone to the “director” of the hotel, so I spoke to him directly, lol. And no one DID remind me!! I’ve reminded so many people but no one reminded me, where’s karma when u need it!?
